FAQ
Does California accept continuing education from Nursing CE central?
Yes, Nursing CE Central is an approved provider of nursing continuing education per the California BRN (CEP 17418).
What are the continuing education requirements for RNs in California?
The California BRN requires that Registered Nurses obtain 30 contact hours of continuing education prior to license renewal every 2 years.
How do I complete a course?
Once you enroll you will have access to all courses. To complete a course you read and learn the course materials, then testify that you have done so by clicking a button. Once this is complete your certificate will be issued.
Are tests required?
No. The California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) does not require that tests be taken in order to issue certificates. We do not feel that tests are an efficient use of nurses' time. Therefore, we do not require tests. You simply need to read the material and certify you have learned the material with one click.
How do I access my certificates once a course is completed?
Your certificate will be instantly emailed to you once you complete a course. Additionally, it is available online for you to access at any time. We keep a record of your certificates for five years.
Are the courses timed?
No. Users may complete the courses at their own pace. Nursing CE Central does not monitor your time spent in courses.
What is your refund policy?
Nursing CE Central is happy to offer you a refund if the courses do not meet your state licensing requirements.
California BRN License Renewal FAQ
Is Nursing CE Central a California BRN approved provider?
Yes! Courses from Nursing CE Central are approved and accepted by the California BRN.
What are the 2022 CE requirements for renewal?
30 contact hours of continuing education from a BRN approved provider (such as
Nursing CE Central) are required for RN license renewal.
Is the California BRN waiving any renewal requirements this year due to COVID?
According to the California BRN, no. Regular requirements for 2022 renewals are currently in place, such as continuing education completion and state fees.
What do I need to have ready when starting my renewal online with the California BON?
Most nurses will only need proof of fulfilled continuing education requirements, along with a valid method of payment, to complete their renewal through the BreEZe Online Services licensing portal.
Can I renew now, and complete my CEUs later?
Nurses may begin their renewal application through the BreEZe Online Services
licensing portal, however, continuing education requirements must be met for the renewal to be fully processed. The California BRN explains that, "payment may be processed, but your renewal will be considered incomplete."
How can I check that my renewal application is complete?
After submitting all renewal requirements, including payment, log-off or exit your BreEZe browser window. Then, visit www.breeze.ca.gov and select the 'Verify a License' button. Click 'Search by License Number,' and enter your information. A new expiration date will be listed for licenses that have successfully renewed.
Can I still work/practice if my renewal is listed as pending?
According to the California Board of Registered Nursing, any nurse who has paid their renewal fee and submitted all renewal requirements on time (such as completed, continuing education), may continue working through a pending renewal if their employer allows.
What happens if I don't renew my license before its current expiration date?
According to the California Board of Registered Nursing, a nurse who pays their renewal fee, but does not complete the required 30 hours of continuing education, will have their license placed on an INACTIVE status. Nurses with an INACTIVE license can not work as a registered nurse in California.
If a nurse misses both the continuing education AND payment requirements for renewal, their license will be placed on a DELINQUENT status. DELINQUENT licensees may not work as a registered nurse in California, and are subject to a delinquent renewal fee
